Testosterone Replacement Therapy Helps You Build Muscle, Lose Fat and Increase Gains
Across Texas, gyms and fitness programs are back to full capacity, and many men will be starting or resuming their exercise regimen to get back into shape after a long layoff. Whether you are jogging, doing yoga, or ramping it up with Cross Fit or MMA training, men with Low Testosterone (Low-T can feel like they are always a step behind. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Texas Men’s Health Group has made it safe, easy, and discrete for men to diagnose and treat the symptoms of Low Testosterone with Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).
Build Lean Muscle and Lose Fat with TRT
Studies show that men with Low-T can decrease fat mass and increase muscle size and strength with TRT. Testosterone is the hormone most responsible for increasing muscle mass and lowering body fat. For most men, testosterone production in their body begins to reduce at a rat of about 1-2% annually, starting in their mid 30’s. By the time you’re 45 you could be producing 20-30% less testosterone than you did at your peak. That’s why it is so much harder to change your body composition when you get older. With Testosterone Replacement Therapy and increased T-Levels, you may get more out of the time and energy you put into dieting and working out. In a 2018 study, men were given either testosterone injections and or a placebo. Those men using TRT had an associated 5.7% increase in lean body mass. Their increases in total body strength, leg strength, and arm strength were between 10-13% when compared to those men given placebo.
Recover Faster from Workouts with TRT
Sleep is a critical part of recovery from injury, illness, and from working out. While TRT has been associated with improvements in sleep apnea, an Australian study published in the Asian Journal of Andrology sought to understand the overall impact of Testosterone on sleep. They discovered that poor sleep was associated with Low-T. By restricting sleep to 5 hours for eight nights in a row, study participants testosterone levels dropped by 10%-15%. Likewise, “In a cohort study of men aged 65 years and over, those with lower testosterone levels had reduced sleep efficiency, increased nocturnal awakenings, and less time in SWS.” Another way that TRT can help you improve your recovery is by helping to increase the production of red blood cells in your body. Red blood cells help deliver oxygen which in turn helps promote healing and improve your immune system.
Exercise can help increase the impact of TRT.
Researchers have discovered that not only can TRT help you improve your workouts, but exercise can also help you get more from your TRT. A 2013 Study was conducted on men who were all over 40 and experiencing symptoms of Low-T. Half were given Testosterone Gel and put on a 20-week exercise program, and the other half were assigned just the exercise program with no Testosterone. “The combination of exercise and TRT showed significant improvements in serum testosterone levels and LOH symptoms compared to TRT alone. In addition, these improvements were well-maintained in the combination group with continuous exercise even after cessation of TRT.” Exercise can also help you maintain T-Levels even if you stop TRT. “Exercise can augment the durability of response to TRT after stopping treatment, and it may be the solution to shorten the treatment duration with a lower risk from testosterone therapy.”
Feeling Better and Looking with TRT
Working out and getting more exercise can help improve your stamina, cardiovascular health, and help to reduce fat and increase muscles, regardless of your age or what shape you may be in. But doing it with Low-T is like trying to drive to work in low gear. You’ll get there, but it will be a lot slower than you could otherwise. Texas Men’s Health Group can help men with Low-T “rev up the engine” and get more from their workouts – the way it is supposed to be. Feeling better about your health can help you feel better about yourself. An improved physique and sense of well-being can go a long way toward looking and feeling your best.
